I’m getting a file format invalid message when trying to open numbers files in Dropbox.
I recently unselected a load of folders in error from syncing with Dropbox and now when I have reselected them I get a ‘file format invalid’ message in numbers.
It was ok before so not sure why it won’t let me own them now??

Hi Lucythorniley - happy Monday and welcome to the Dropbox Community!
I'd love to look into this matter; could you forward me a screenshot of how it looks like on your end so I can have a visual too?
While at it, can you make sure that the app on your computer is showing 'Up to date' which means you're fully synced?
On a side note, can you clear this up for me? Were you referring to our selective sync feature which allows you to unsync specific folders from your computer to free up space or our Smart Sync feature and instead of having them 'Local', you set them to be 'Online Only'? What do their syncing icons look like?
Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for the screenshot of the error you're getting Lucy!
Can you go through the exact steps you take to do this and on what exact device exactly?
While at it, can you let me know if you can locate this file within your Dropbox folder through your Finder?

thanks Walter
I'm on a macbook.
I go to numbers and dropbox and then the folder that I am trying to access.
Used to work fine until I deselected them through the dropbox sync.
When I go to finder and select the dropbox folder, no files appear??

So it's possible that your desktop app is acting up or not syncing your files at all Lucy.
Can you check if that's the case by looking at the Dropbox icons within your computer's menu bar? Does it show 'up to date' or syncing?
On a side note, can you find this file on our website, download it locally on your device and try to open it from there?
Do you get the same error?

it says up to date.
which file do you want me to open?

The one you're trying to open through the Numbers app Lucythorniley!
Are you getting the same error?
If you do, can you check if there's a pending update for the Numbers app, apply it and try again?
