If I move a folder within my account, will the shared link still work?

I would like to reorganize my Dropbox folders, but I have given share links to a lot of people. If I move a folder from one place to another within my account, will the share links still work?

I just tested it with a temporary folder and it seemed to work, but I wold like an official statement along with any caveats.

Thanks

  • Hi there Pete Moss, welcome to the Dropbox Community!

You're right, moving a file or a folder to another location within your Dropbox account shouldn't break the shared links attached to them.

However, if the shared link or item it's associated with is deleted, or you move the file or folder to another shared folder which has certain permissions applied to it, then the shared link will break.

You can have a look through this thread, where Jay elaborates a bit more on the matter.

If you have any other questions though, give me a shout. Cheers!

Thanks, especially for the additional comment about different folders having different permissions and for the link to the other thread.

    Sincerely, PM
