My backup files are gone after my admin deleted my Dropbox account. How can I restore everything?

I have seen loads of people having these kinds of issues with Dropbox since 3 years ago

Unfortunately this issue remained unsolved by dropbox until today.

What happened was I joined our company Dropbox team a few months ago. Now they are changing the subscription, and one of my colleagues wanted to remove me from the Team.

In doing so, she deleted my account due to misunderstanding of the website wordings.

On my computer, my downloads, desktop, documents files are gone.

I tried restoring my files from Apple time machine but failed. It says the upper files path does not exist.

Some traces deleting the folder somehow broke the path to the folders.

I am in desperate need of recovering my account.

Hey anqi, thanks for posting about this on our forum today.

It sounds indeed like your admin deleted your Dropbox account instead of converting it back to an individual one.

If this happened within the last seven days, then you’ll need to contact them as soon as possible, have them restore your account and then, convert it back to a personal one with the steps I sent you above.

Restoring your Dropbox account should grant you access to all of your previous files and permissions and the same applies if they convert it back to a personal one.

Other than that, I can see you’ve logged a ticket with our support team, so if you need any help after that, please let them know and they’ll further assist.

    Hope this helps a bit.

I have the admin’s account now but I don’t see any options for restoring.

I know my files are transferred to the admins account. But now that I lost my own computer backup path, I can’t download them from Dropbox directly (as is too big) or restore some of my backup files from my hard disk (as the file path is disturbed)

The support team transferred me to multiple staffs with limited help provided. It took forever to hear from them also. Is there any one who can help please??

Thanks for clarifying that, anqi. If the admin chose to transfer your files to their Dropbox account during the account deletion, this would explain why there’s no option to restore your account indeed.

Can you clarify the total size of your backup files on Dropbox? If your admin has the desktop app installed on their computer, have all of those files synced there, too?

they did not turn on the backup function themselves. the total size of my macbook backups is around 200G and I have downloaded part of them. (desktop file and download file) as for the document file, it is not that big but there were too many system files inside.

The issue here is that when I backup my Macbook, the Time Machine of Apple did not back up my 3 files properly. The original files were uploaded to the Dropbox already and Dropbox in return deleted my original files on my computer. That's why it created a shadow link which pointed to files Inside the Dropbox. Which I had no knowledge or consent at all.

So even though I have those files downloaded, there is nowhere for them to go. As the shadow links are broken.

Thanks for all the added info anqi!

Would you mind sharing your Support ticket number with me here, in order to check the troubleshooting steps you've already tried with them, and check its progress?

    ticket: 24558209

They just sent an email to the admins email address on instructions of restoring my account.

I doubt if they understand the whole situation here

Thanks for sending over your ticket number. I can see the case has been assigned to our advanced team, so I’d definitely recommend sticking with them. I’ve left another internal message, so that they can check out your latest email as soon as possible.

The advanced team isn't helping at all.

The current situation is that the deletion of my account makes it impossible to restore all the backed-up files I have cuz the file path is disturbed.

I don't understand why there's no one understands the whole situation here.
