Hello everyone,
Our engineer's have looked into this and have provided a solution that should assist. If you follow the steps below, this should ensure that your folders are restored to the default for your PC. If you have any other issues, feel free to create a new thread and we will follow up with you shortly.
1) Make sure the Dropbox desktop application is running (re-download if you have already deleted the application)
2) Click on the Dropbox icon in the system tray and then click your profile picture or initials
3) Select âPreferencesâ
4) Click on the âAccountâ tab, and then click in the window under the tab (just anywhere will do)
5) Hold down the âalt+Hâ keys
6) select the option to âreset OS foldersâ

Hi
This seems to be a common occurance and yet the actual way to solve it is hidden in direct emails to people who have asked the questions.
I have reinstalled DB, i am now trying to sync my desktop and i'm getting the error message that the other users spoke of 'move desktop back to default location', i then follow the steps https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-installs-integrations/I-uninstalled-the-desktop-app-but-the-Dropbox-folder-is-still-on/m-p/459063/highlight/true#M99032.
This gives me an error message 'cant redirect into reparse point, please choose a different target path'.
Its exasperating at this stage, does anyone have the answer?
thanks
Nancy

I'm also experiencing the same issue, except magnified because it was disallowing me from running an installer that was synced through dropbox.
Installer gets downloaded and redirected to dropbox's downloads folder on the computer. I can't run it and am forced to uninstall dropbox, then redirect my downloads folder to a "downloads2" folder because all the dropbox pathways didn't go away when I uninstalled.
Now I can't even redirect my downloads to the default because it's being redirected into reparse point?
How is this supposed to be fixed, please advise!

I am ALSO having the exact same difficulties as everyone else, so could someone also email me the secrets as well, instead of publicly posting them for all to see, because that would make entirely too much sense?
And: this is so awful. To uninstall a program and have it lingering in the background creating havoc is creepy and gross.

I am experiencing exactly the same issues and can now no longer open any of my files on my computer (although can access them online through the backup Dropbox folder which is presumably where they have all been moved to).
Please help (via personal email or however is possible)

Like others, I get the "can't direct into reparse..." message. Unfortunately, the Dropbox account in question is one that I had through a previous employer. I no longer have access to this account, so I can't download it again to try to disable the sync. Can you help? Thank you.

Hi Walter,
Thanks for writing. Let me back up to see if there's a simpler way to address this. I have two Dropbox accounts: my personal one (Account A) and former employer (Account B). Account B is the one that I inadvertently set up to sync everything to, which has wreaked havoc on my computer. Having read through all of these threads, it seems that the first step would be for me to disable the computer backup feature for Account B. However, the only preferences settings I can access are those for Account A, which are unrelated to my problems with Account B. I can't get access to the email for Account B in order to reset a password or change settings. Is there another way for me to disable the backup feature and close that account once and for all? Thank you

So, the desktop app is linked to Account A or B ColeSnow? You can check this from the app's preferences under the Account tab.
If you could also elaborate on the problems that syncing Account B on your computer created for you, I'd appreciate it. - ColeSnow3 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Sure. I'll try to be as clear as possible, though it's been confusing for me.
I already had Dropbox account A for personal use. Dropbox B was created for me through an employer (freelance, so I was using my personal computer). I inadvertently set it up so that ALL my computer files were being saved to Dropbox B. After the job finished, I continued to have access to Dropbox B because they forgot to take me off and I didn't realize I had set it up as the default pathway. Once I realized this, I couldn't figure out how to correct it, so I removed all of my personal files from Dropbox B (I thought) and uninstalled it from my computer. This did not fix the issue and it was still the default pathway. I tried the following:
1. Reinstalling Dropbox on my computer. It is linked to Dropbox A (my personal account). Yet Dropbox B is still the default pathway.
2. Resetting to the default pathways but the Dropbox B pathway now IS the default and I am not able to make my C drive the default pathway.
Somewhere in this process, the "can't redirect into reparse point please choose different target path" came up but I'm hoping there's a more straightforward way to solve this.

Hi ColeSnow, just to make sure we're on the same page, can you clarify if you try to move the Dropbox folder location?
If so, did you try through the app's settings? Feel free to send me a few screenshots of the error you get in order for me to have visual; and walk me through the steps you follow on your end, when you see the error.
Thanks!

Just like when you bring your car to the mechanic and it miraculously seems to have fixed itself...my problem seems to have been resolved. Thanks for your help!
