"Conflicted Copy" entire dropbox folder

Turned on my laptop this morning and noticed my entire dropbox folder said "conflicted copy" and renamed it.

I have seen individual files with this issue, but the entire folder became conflicted?

Hi slthom, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Is you Dropbox folder located on an external drive by any chance, or do you have multiple Dropbox accounts?

This will help me to assist further!

This is a local folder.   I have a personal account as well as a business account.  The entire business folder became renamed with conflicted copy

Did you have both Dropbox accounts linked on your computer, so both Dropbox folders are visible?

Did the Dropbox Business team admin change the name of the business account, which would change the name of the Dropbox folder?

    yes, both are linked.

I am the team admin and didn't make any changes.  Just opened computer up this morning and noticed the entire business dropbox folder had been changed to include "conflicted copy."

I just reinstalled dropbox on my computer and DB has gone through it's reindexing and such.  I then opened up the folders within the "conflicted copy" folder and copied them back to the normal business dropbox folder.  everything appears to be fine now.  It is just crazy to think the entire folder can become "conflicted"

I'm glad to hear that the issue has been resolved on your end. The entire folder shouldn't really be a conflicted folder, unless the folder itself wasn't detected for some reason, and then was detected later.

If the issue occurs again, please let me know.

Hi, I have the same issue, only about 15 folders have been duplicated. Could it have occurred because I worked offline for a few days and others worked online in between?

Hey JonathanAU, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

There are three ways a conflicted copy can happen:

    1. Two users change the same file at the same time

    2. Someone edits a file offline while someone else edits the same file

    3. A file is left open on another user’s computer, which Dropbox saves as a new edit—this is especially common when using applications with an auto-save feature.

Note: The last version saved will always appear as the conflicted copy.

For more information about this and next steps, you can have a look here

    I hope this helps!
