Dropbox and shared tiny URL?

Once upon a time, a user started a discussion about shortening URL.
Some two years later. Does the community made progress in being able to work with shorter URL?
Do we depend on third parties for doing that?
Just now, I was sharing a folder and the URL consists of 127 characters.
Nobody is going to click on something like that.
Are we now able to work with Tiny URL, or Friendly URL, or Semantic URL?

Dropbox works, and has always worked, with URL shortners - I frequently use Rebrandly.
However, you need to make sure the shortner isnt trying to change the URL at all by appending data to it.
