Solved

Dropbox desktop syncing caused the internet wifi to stop working.

I have been experiencing this issue for a while now. Every time I sync a file on my MacBook onto Dropbox, the Wi-Fi connection stops working for other applications, browsers, phones, and smart home devices. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to fix this issue? I've tried adjusting the bandwidth upload rate in the settings, but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. If you reduce the upload speed even further, to less than 100 KB/s, are you still getting this issue? Are you connected to a stable WiFi network, or via a hotspot?

Does this only occur on this network connection?

Quick Update: I bumped the upload rate up to 200 KB/s which is about 1/8 of my wifi upload speed and it still works.

    Thanks again.

Hi denisespencer58, have you tried the steps mentioned previously to restrict the upload speed for the Dropbox app?

Hi Jay, I’m not sure where to do that. I don’t see in properties anything that lets me change the speed. I’m doing this on a Windows machine but I also checked my iPad and don’t see anything either. I did resinstall the program but it didn’t help.  F you could guide me to where I should change the speed, I will. Thanks.

Hey denisespencer58, you can try to do this on your desktop app first and see how it goes. To adjust the bandwidth settings of the Dropbox app there, you’ll need to visit the Bandwidth/Network tab of your app preferences.

Let us know if that makes any difference.
