- 9 years agoLet me send over some more details and tips to determine the cause!
- For starters, you may have a look here for some steps to adjust your bandwidth locally.
- Secondly, you could try force quitting all other applications and see if this helps improving your syncing speed.
- Also, let me ask you whether you’re in a work or home environment.
- You could use the link below to check your connection speed through your ISP and local network by using the following link: http://www.speedtest.net/
I’ll be following-up here, so please keep me updated in your reply!

I have a 5MB upload hard wired internet. Yet when I upload large files using my desktop application, I'm only getting 10-66kb transfer speeds. Why so slow? My ISP has checked and found nothing wrong with my service. Is Dropbox "throttling back" my upload speed? There are no other devises being used that would reduce band width. Please help!

I just migrated today to Google Drive as well. Synced 70 GB in less than an hour, instead of the 7 days it would have taken at 150 KB/sec on Dropbox. Google Drive also comes with 15 GB for free (compared to 2 GB with the free Dropbox option), and I upgraded to 100 GB for $2/month (compared to Dropbox's minimum paid plan which is $10/month for 1 TB).
Unless someone needs an obscure feature that's only available with Dropbox, I can't think of any reason to recommend Dropbox instead of Google Drive to someone looking for new cloud storage.
Even for existing users, where there's the hassle factor of switching, I'd still recommend switching to Google Drive unless (a) Dropbox implements some emergency plant to fix the sync speed issue, or (b) you only use Dropbox for storing lots of small files adding up to less than 2 GB total. (That's how I had been using Dropbox for the past three years, and it was adequate for that. The sync speed issue only became a problem when I tried using Dropbox as a total backup solution.) If you're on Dropbox Pro, obviously cancel your Dropbox Pro subscription and switch to Google Drive right away, and start saving money too (if you're storing between 2 and 100 GB).
