Solved

Files uploaded to a shared folder come with a red circle and an X on them. Why?

I just uploaded a bunch of PDFs to a shared dropbox folder and instead of the green circle with checkmark to the right, they're accompanied by a red circle with an X. Does anyone know what this means?

  • Found the problem. The author of these files used a\in their name. Replacing the backslash with a hyphen replace's the error flag with an up-to-date flag and they now appear at/home.

    Thanks for your help Mark!

It means there is an error

Mouse over the Dropbox icon on the status bar (usually near the clock) to see what the error is

Thx Mark. When I mouse over the dropbox icon on the status bar a pop-up message appears stating "Drop box 54.4.90 up to date"

Are the files open at present? If so they wont be able to sync.

If not try closing and reopening the folders - I sometimes find things get mixed up.

Can you see those files online at www.dropbox.com/home ?

The files are not open at present. Closing and then opening the folder produces the same results. The error flagged files are not visible on www.dropbox.com/home.
