I can't modify shared files without making a copy first

Hi,

I have recently started using Dropbox for Desktop on my new Macbook (Ventura 13.0) and I am encountering issues trying to work on the shared .docx files of my Dropbox. When I open them with Pages (or even with TextEdit), they are automatically opened as copies of the original file (that would by default be saved on my iCloud, if I do not indicate otherwise). I have found no way of modifying the "original" file and getting my modifications to be synced on it. Is there a way around this, or am I forced to work on Dropbox online in order to work on the original, shared file?

Hi mariamscn, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are these files in shared folders, or are they shared directly to your account?

Are they shared with edit permissions, or read-only permissions?

This will help me to assist further!

Thank you very much for the reply! They are in shared folders, and all with edit permissions.

Thanks for the info, if the files are opening as a copy, then this wouldn't be related to Dropbox directly, but how those apps are trying to edit the file.

Are you able to open the files on a local copy of Word on your machine?

Thank you! I do manage to open the original files with OpenOffice, so this means it is a Pages/Apple softwares issue only... I will check this on their side, then! Thanks for the help anyways.

No worries, glad to hear you were able to locate the issue regarding the opening of the files.
