Image uploads - Suddenly capped at 400?

I work with several hundred image files at once. I’m using my iPad Pro which has plenty of storage. I went to upload 852 image files (something I have done regularly for years using the Dropbox app) to my Dropbox this morning and the app on the iPad is telling me that there’s a cap of only 400 images I can upload at a time. I am unable to find a way to bypass this. What this means for me is I will have to upload images in batches of 400 and then sort through them to make sure I didn’t duplicate any because the upload system in the app seems to have an overlap between what gets uploaded from the iPad and what shows up in the app. In other words, I am unable to select accurately what gets uploaded from the iPad and what does not so I risk losing files due to this cap.

This has to be an error or a bug because I cannot possibly imagine a logical reason for capping uploads of images. Dropbox has never had this limit before. Can someone confirm this is happening for them on the iPad app and if so, anyway to get get around it?

Hi all, I'm a mobile product manager. We recently discovered that there was an issue on Apple's end that was causing bulk uploads to hang/never complete.  As a mitigation, we capped the uploads to 400 at a time so that users wouldn't encounter this problem.

This is a temporary fix on our end while we work with Apple to get this issue resolved.  They've said that this is a non-trivial bug and may take some time to fix on their end, so your patience is greatly appreciated.  At this time, we don't have a timeline, but we'll touch base when we do.

    Thanks!

I have been experiencing the same thing trying to upload photos from my iPhone for the past several days. Hoping someone has a fix.

Hi CRLChris & KS1124, thanks for posting here!

As a first step, can you clarify the OS that you're using on your iPad and iPhone, along with the Dropbox version installed on the device?

Also, do you use camera uploads, or manually uploading files by pressing the + button?

If you have a screenshot of the message you get when trying to upload the content to Dropbox, feel free to attach it here.

    Keep me posted!

Hey I recently started having the same issue and it started Monday sept 25 2023  all of sudden got this message on my iPad Pro I have never seen before and won’t let me select more than 400 photos at a time, is there any way around this? It was a much smoother process to upload everything at once

I also have that same message about the 400 photos. I am using an iPhone, version 16.7, Dropbox Plus, and using the + sign in the bottom middle of the screen.  Thanks!

I put a ticket in with them, but no response yet other than “looking into it”.

This is obviously a new “feature” that the developers decided was a good idea for some interesting reason. I can’t imagine what their thought process was. Maybe they thought it was an issue impacting mobile on 4/5G? But then why lock it down for Wi-Fi as well?

Seems like they decided to fix something that wasn’t broken. Maybe they will give us a way to turn it off.

Thank you for the rapid response. Is the problem limited to the app or is Safari upload a work around?

    Hi Rhut,

officer doing extensive research of which cloud storage service to use I decided on Dropbox. When I signed up nothing was mentioned about this bug. it is now 22 August 2024 and your last reply was on 26 September 2023, so almost a year ago.

    The complaints I have are:

    1. I cannot transfer all my photos from my iPad to the dropbox at once which is frustrating and very easy to make mistakes and lose photos.
    2. Since this bug has been around for so long I feel misled that I wasn’t informed when I signed up.

If this bug will be solved shortly then I will wait but if it’s still going to be weeks or months then I will switch to another service.

I would appreciate a quick response as this project needs to be finished this week, wishes obviously not going to happen now.
