My shared links won't copy to my clipboard on the web browser.
Device
(Macbook Pro 2021)
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
(macOS 15.7.2 / Safari 18.6)
Question or Issue
Using Safari web browser on my Macbook, when creating a share link to a file or folder, even though it says the link has copied, it will not paste into an email or anything else. I've even tried to opening the standard Text Edit app and pasting as plain text. It just comes up blank. I've tried right clicking on the 'copy link' but that just pastes the folder path as the URL with with a # on the end (no permissions code).
The clipboard on the mac also shows as blank after it copies. It wipes off anything I previously copied from the clipboard, so it's clearly trying to do something, but no link is actually being copied.
So even though I can create the share link, I have no way of getting it on my laptop.
The only thing that has changed recently is that I upgraded my OS to 15.7.2 on 17 Nov, along with the browser version. But I have shared a file the day after I upgraded.
I've also tried other web browsers and I'm having the same issue.
Other things will copy and paste fine in other apps and websites. Only having the issue with Dropbox.
It works fine on the phone app. No issues there. Just in the web browser. That'll be my temporary solution for now is to create it on the phone app and send it to myself.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks
Sean

Ah brilliant, that way works too for now. I didn't know I could change that setting. Many thanks.

Hi Sean,
If you're usually wanting to share View only links, one other thing you can do is change your default sharing settings to default "What people can do" to "Can view". https://help.dropbox.com/share/set-file-folder-permissions#How-to-manage-your-default-sharing-settings
I'm glad you have found a clever workaround for now. Thanks for your patience as we fix this!

Hi there, unfortunately that won't work for me as most of what I'm sharing needs to be view-only. That 'Copy link' button on your screenshot only does 'Edit' by default, and to change it to 'view-only' just takes me into the settings which doesn't copy the link.
I do have a workaround though. I'm able to copy a 'view-only' link using the app on my phone. Then I send that link back to my laptop.
Thanks

Hi Sean,
Thanks for the screenshot. We are working on a fix.
In the meantime, are you able to use Share > Copy Link as an alternative flow to copy links?

Hi Nancy, I've tried it in an Incognito window in Safari and also experiencing the same issue there. Nothing in the clipboard.
Where I tried to right-click on 'copy link', this was in the web browser too.
See screenshot attached.
Thanks for looking into it.

MattRamey, have you also tested this via different browsers/incognito mode and the issue persists?

Thanks for reporting this on our forum, SeanMcCabe!
Can you also test this via an incognito window on your current browser and let me know if you experience the exact same thing?
Also, when saying that you tried right-clicking on your Dropbox files and selecting "Copy link", are you referring to the desktop app on your Mac device?
Keep me in the loop for any updates.
