No option to save the updated version of file when using the Dropbox badge
Hi. Got a weird issue where the Dropbox badge shows all states (other person editing, we'll let you know when they've finished etc) EXCEPT offering to download the new version after the other user has finished editing. It just stops saying anybody else is editing and reverts to normal, and then if I save, I get a conflicted copy! Anybody else seen behaviour like this and have a solution?

Hi there PCBoB - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Could you please let us know your device's OS version, and the version and status of the Dropbox desktop app as shown in your menu bar/system tray?
Have you tried rebooting your device and/or quitting and relaunching the app since you first noticed this?
Let us know more and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for picking this up. One PC is Windows 11, and one is Windows 10. Both Dropbox apps are 211.4.6008 (both Dropbox systems upgraded, uninstalled & reinstalled several times to try to fix this - always the same). Only other "clue" I can offer is that I sometimes also see briefly Dropbox attempting & failing sync with brief flash of sync issue as "can't sync file because open in Word", starting sync again, failing, etc etc......

I see, thanks for the additional information PCBoB
Could you have a look at your events page and the version history of the files to see what might be happening?

Nothing seems wrong in Events or Version History. A little more info this morning though - both Dropbox apps updated themselves to 212.3.5649, but situation remains same. I have now noticed that the problem seems definitely on the PC which has NOT edited. The Dropbox app continually tries to download the new file, fails, tries again, fails... while badge has returned ito normal-nobody-else-viewing state

Hey PCBoB! Hope you don’t mind me chime in.
So, is it safe to assume the issue persists only one of your two computers? If yes, is it the Win10 or Win11 device?
When the Dropbox app doesn’t attempt to sync any updates via Badge, is it up to date?
Let me know if I’ve misunderstood something.

No, issue is symmetric - whichever I edit on, the OTHER badge tells me that someone else is editing, and when I finish editing (close Word & save) on the first PC, badge returns to normal. App on that second machine is continuously downloading, flashes sync isuue, downloads again etc all without the open file in Word changing. When I close file on that second machine (no save) and reopen, then changes are there.

Hi PCBoB, could you attach a screenshot showing the Dropbox Badge on your device, showing both when it's being edited, and then the lack of a download button after that other file was saved?
- PCBoB2 years agoExplorer | Level 3
OK. This is quite difficult to show the Dropbox App behaviour, but attached (as a Dropbox link) please find 4 screenshots. The ones called "syncing1" & "syncing2" are an attempt to show the two states of "downloading" and "downloading complete" that loop round and round with no change to badge or document. Syncing only completes successfully when file closed.

Thanks, we're unable to view external link, could you attach the screenshots or copy and paste them in your next reply?
