No option to save the updated version of file when using the Dropbox badge

Hi. Got a weird issue where the Dropbox badge shows all states (other person editing, we'll let you know when they've finished etc) EXCEPT offering to download the new version after the other user has finished editing. It just stops saying anybody else is editing and reverts to normal, and then if I save, I get a conflicted copy! Anybody else seen behaviour like this and have a solution?

What version of Word are you running on both devices?

Thanks for the additional information PCBoB

Can you confirm that this is not an issue if the changes made on the file on one machine are saved and this file is not open when you open the (same) file on the other machine?

Also, do you happen to have the "AutoSave" option set to on?

Are there any other apps that might be accessing the same file?

If I fully understand your 1st question, it boils down to does file sync properly, and yes everything works as expected if only open on one machine at a time. The problem is (put simply) badge warns you other person is editing, but returns to normal (no download option) when other person closes. During this time, sync appears to be failing & retrying until file is closed when it works.

No, auto save is not on, and nothing else (to my knowledge) is trying to access file. If I get a chance today I will try to experiment on two different (probably virtual) machines.

So I have tried again on two clean Windows 11 Virtual PCs, new install Office, new install Dropbox, and situation is exactly the same. I have managed to capture a screenshot below of the sync issue clearly stating that file cannot sync until Word closed

Hi. It's been very quiet about this - have any of the Dropbox staff who have commented/questioned here got any answers?

Hey PCBoB , sorry for the delay here. My team has been diving into this issue and identified a bug specifically related to the coordination notification on Windows that aligns with the issue you're describing. We're working on a fix for it as our highest priority and appreciate your patience!
