Please add an option to fully cancel sync

Hi,

I have had this issue several times, when I'm using dropbox in windows explorer and I want to make my dropbox files only available online but by mistake I click on the option to make all files available offline and there is no way to cancel the process.

This is very annoying because I don't want to sync almost 3TB to my computer, often I don't even have enough space to do so, but dropbox keeps trying and taking forever to sync until I can make those files only available onlline again, so the only solution is to pause the synchronization and completely uninstall Dropbox, reinstall it again and wait for it to check everything once again, which is also a process that takes a good amount of time.

Please add an option to fully cancel a sync because I'm really thinking of cancelling my subscription at this point, it is very annoying and this problem has been known for a while already. Also why do you set the option to make all files available offline right next to the option to make them only available online? That makes it very easy to click the wrong one by mistake.

  • Hi there, oonabe, thanks for your suggestion!

We appreciate you taking the time to post about this.

I made sure to pass your feedback to our team, however, when this happens, can you try to right-click on those files again and then choose the "make online-only" option, to see if that helps?

It should just cancel the download and switch the files back to online-only.

Let me know if it works.

thanks, I will try that next time then I just went with the known method of deleting the app and reinstalling it again before I read this answer.

For the main folder that option isn't available anymore once the sync starts but I haven't tried with subfolders in the next hierarchy level, it could be a little bit of work but definitely less than having to uninstall and reinstall the app from scratch all over again,

thanks for the suggestion and I hope it works next time I have this issue

    Not a problem, oonabe!

And in any case, since you're basically asking for a feature, you can also go to our Ideas section and post your idea for other users to up-vote, so that our team can take it into consideration.

Just make sure to check Emma's tips here before posting.

I hope this helps and if you need anything else, let me know!

I have just had the same issue and it is very aggravating: the only work around is to make files be online only as default, an option which i discovered too late so now I am wasting 60GB of dropbox server bandwidth downloading a file to just be able to make it online only after, because of the lack of any cancel option in such instance.

Otherwise, dropbox is just perfect ;)

    Cheers!
