Why can't I see any Smart Sync options in Finder?
I have just upgraded so i have smart sync. I have a MAC and a Dell. I have selected the "online only for new files" in preferences and i am trying to get both machines to put all existing folders online.
I have managed to do this on the Dell by right clicking on the folder and selecting smart sync and then online.
I am control clicking on the MAC on a folder and it doesnt give me the same drop down menu option - there is no option to select smart sync?
Any ideas?
- Hi Vic, if you just upgraded, quit and reopen the Dropbox desktop application for the option to appear. If that doesn’t work, reboot the Mac.This will make sure that the context menu has been installed.Let me know if that works!

Fabulous I can now see the option. I assume it takes some time to do. The first folder has done- just waiting for the others. It doesnt matter that they are shared folders (ie someone shared with me does it?)
Thanks so much for your help

It takes some time to mark the files and folders as online-only to download the placeholder files, and varies depending on the number of files in total, and no problems with sharing. If you have any questions, please let me know! - viccilewis7 years agoNew member | Level 2

The added features will be available to existing Plus accounts in the coming week. Dropbox slowly pushes such updates to ensure a successfull rollout.

Thanks Rich,
Can't wait...
You know if there's going to be some kind of notification or if I should go every now and then check if it suddenly appeared?
Or if each time I check, I have to quit the app, or make an update or re-install the whole thing?
Thanks again for your help

Hey there Binko, are you still not able to see the smart sync option in your desktop app yet?You will have received an email when your account was successfully upgraded to the new Dropbox Plus subscription. Then you can enable smart sync on your device by doing the following:- Click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
- Click the gear icon in the top right of the window.
- Choose Preferences…
- Go to the General tab and enable Smart Sync.
Hope this helps - Cheers! - kane6567 years agoNew member | Level 2
Hi Daphne
I am having exactly the same problem. It was working up until a week or so ago. No contextual menus either like Binko, although there are checkbox/cloud icons in the Finder and apparently I have the most recent version of Dropbox. I am running Yosemite 10.10.5.
If I continue down this path eventually I will run out of hard drive space with all of these 'Local' versions on my computer, with no option to make 'Online Only'.

Hey there kane656,Can you just let me know if you don’t see the option for Smart sync at all, or are you perhaps seeing the option but not seeing the sub menu “Online only” and “Local” like described here? Also in your reply, can you let me know if your sync status is up-to-date and the version of the desktop app you’re running?Cheers!
