Sorry for the late reply. I checked today if this issue is still ongoing but after today it seems to be fixed. Now it always uses around 200mB.
Was there an update that fixed this?

-As a temporary fix, you can access your iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Dropbox.
-Tap Offload App, and then Delete App.
-Restart your phone, and reinstall Dropbox from the App Store. - Walter5 months ago

Dropbox Staff
Hi MigiHunzi,
It is possible that you may have linked a personal account and a business account ( trial , paid, or expired trial) that are still linked together . That's most likely where the 7.GB is coming from ( 1G from your Personal account, and the rest is from your Business account ). That's the only thing I can think of . Also , there is an Offload App button that when clicked, will free up the storage used by the app, did you consider clicking that button ? Deleting the app as well would help , and just reinstall it . This should not affect the online files that are stored in your Dropbox account as they are still available via online access.
Hope this helps.
