Dropbox is full, but my storage is used by shared folders

Here's my issue. My dropbox is full, so I deleted a lot of old folders, but deleting them, even permanently, doesn't free up space because they are folders that were shared with me. So I'm really just removing my access. ALL of my space is made up of folders shared with me. So it seems there is no way to actually free up my space. Is there anything I an do without having to upgrade? I don't need files from 2017...yet deleting them does me no good! Please help! I can't just keep upgrading my plan :(.

Shared folders use your quota. So, you either need to upgrade OR leave the shares and no longer have access.

Note that deleted files don't use quota so permanently deleting wont change anything.

So my only option is to upgrade? So I’m just paying for space I don’t need because Dropbox doesn’t allow me to actually free up space. That’s a bummer. Not using Dropbox anymore lol.

      Thanks!
