Getting a 'not enough Dropbox space' error, when I have plenty of space
Everyday I get this (see screenshot) on Mac Os when connecting any device to sync photos. "Not enough dropbox space" - Mac - But I have PLENTY of space.. and I see it on both of my macs but not my iphone (which indicates to me a poorly written client on mac).
Resolution: sign out and sign in again.. but that means setting up my profile again each time, choosing locations, and closing badges, and so on and so on - and this take a lot of time.. What's the real fix or workaround here? And why haven't dropbox fixed it.
Why on earth would I buy an upgraded plan when something as simple as this fails to function correctly..
Other tests I've tried: complete uninstall / reinstall.
Hi conalwn,
I'm happy to hear that everything is back in working order! It's possible that your cache wasn't properly clearing upon signing out and back in, which is the usual operation that would clear out the cached files causing this error message. This problem seems to have resolved itself while we were investigating.
For anyone else receiving this error message, sign out, then sign back in to clear your cached files. If that doesn't work, please let me know and we can take a deeper look!
Regards,
Ben

I received a free promotion (purchased HP PC) for 100 gb for a yr. Every time I open Dropbox on the iPhone I get an Urgent message on top of the screen that ask me if I want to upgrade since I only used 2% of my storage. How can I stop this message? - Jay3 years ago

Hi Gladya1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you attach a screenshot showing this banner, while hiding any personal names or info?
This will help me to assist further!

Here's the screen shot
Thank you.

Thanks for the image, if you click the notification bell at the top, what message do you see there?

I have left my `mac in the position where it is failing (so i've not signed out and signed back in again).
* Dropbox use: I am using 3.7% of 7.0GB.
* I have 270MB in my photolibrary on my iphone that should sync when I connect it.
* "not enough dropbox space" appears on connection of the device. However, I'm being pushed to 'upgrade' to more space... but I don't need to do that!
* failure still occurs if:
** If I delete the cache files and restart the client
** Restart the iphone or any other devices.
But :
* If I remove EVERYTHING out of my dropbox so usage is 0%, the sync works.
Questions:
1) Is there any way I can view dropbox logs to find out what is going on?
2) Are there any server logs the dropbox team can view to diagnose?
3) Is this an agressive marketing push to get me to upgrade space?

Thanks for the additional info, conalwn.
Just to check, if you turn on camera uploads on the Dropbox mobile app on your iPhone, does it work that way?
Or are you getting an error to upgrade there as well?

Well - that is an interesting question.
Yes, iphone client will do photo upload to success.. BUT..
I get a warning - see screenshot (attached):
"URGENT! You've used 4% of your storage!"
4% of 7 GB is 280MB.. is that 'really' urgent when I'm trying to upload 5MB of photos?
The Mac Client is my Key method of syncing.

Hi
I didn't get the banner this time (thank goodness!). Instead I received another upgrade pop up window on my PC (screenshot attached) in case you want to see it. After I closed the pop up window and clicked the Reply (to answer your message) a big bright green banner appeared at the top of the window then immediately went away and went into the reply message window. It went so fast I couldn't get a screen shot of it. All I saw was the word STORAGE in large letters.
I would love to stop getting allll the upgrade message.. being I have 100 gb storage for a year :).
I appreciate your help.
Gladys

By the way. When I clicked to SEND the message .. that big storage banner flickered on the screen again then disappeared. It's trolling me! lol

Any updates?
I'm still unable to sync using the mac client. I'm using 3% of 7GB but can't sync 30MB of images as dropbox says "you don't have enough space".
And by the way it's definitely the dropbox client and not the mac because I ALSO see this behaviour on my other mac.
Today, if I clear dropbox out completely to 0%, the sync also fails...
Not a very good piece of software if the core functionality fails at the first hurdle.. I mean 'why' would I upgrade if even this basic functionality is failing?
