I received an email about an upcoming change regarding my shared folders and quota - what is it?
One of my editors received this message. Isn't this against the whole point of dropbox and sharing files?

Shared folders have ALWAYS used up quota (its one of the biggest complaints), so, my guess is this was a Team folder which was handled differently and from when they were only available to paid users and then didnt take up space of those in it.

Hi there, dannywhistlindiesel, thanks for joining our Community!
Just wanted to clarify a few things and provide some info on the email you received.
Basically, with the way Dropbox works, storage of shared content is counted as usage in your account.
As of May 8, 2026 shared folders that had not been counted towards your storage space limit will be counted, in line with how storage of shared content is normally treated in your Dropbox account.
If you received shared folders recently, your storage usage may increase beginning May 8, 2026. This may cause your account to go over your storage limit.
We recommend reviewing your files so you can decide what you’d like to keep before this date.
You can see more on managing your storage space here.
Apologies for any inconvenience and please let us know if we can help further.
Thanks.
