My account falsely tells me that I have no storage space.
When I try and access a Dropbox shared with me by my employer, dropbox says that I am out of space and cannot access the dropbox. However, it says that my free account does still have 2GB of space. From my understanding I should be able to access my employer's folder given they are the ones paying for the storage.

You need to have enough available space in your account to hold the shared folder. If you have 2GB of available space and you try to join a shared folder that has 3GB total, then you're 1GB short and won't be able to add the folder to your account.
From my understanding I should be able to access my employer's folder given they are the ones paying for the storage. It doesn't work that way. You're adding the folder to your own account, so you need enough available space to do so.
If you only need to view and/or download the files, ask your employer to send you a view-only shared link instead. You can view or download the files without affecting your own account.

Hello,
My employer has tried to send me the link as view only and it still will not allow me to view the dropbox?
Thank you,
evey

What is it saying when you try?

Its saying the exact same thing, that i have no storage available for the folder. but i'm looking at their screen when they send me the link and they're clearly changing it to "view only" from edit.

Hey there, evey_, I hope you're doing well!
Can you confirm that they're using these steps, when trying to create a view-only shared link and share it with you?
If these are indeed the steps they're following, then would you mind checking your Sharing tab online, and let me know if the folder is located under Folders?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
