Out of storage on the Dropbox Basic plan after getting access to a group's files
I recently signed up for a Basic plan and also got access to a group's files using that same email address. I have never uploaded a file to either the personal account or to the group. Dropbox is telling me that I've exceeded the 2 GB limit on my personal account, showing 16.9 GB of space used. That appears to be the total storage space used by the group, even before I obtained access. I don't want to delete my Basic account for fear of deleting files in the group account. I need to resolve before DBox starts deleting files on it's own. Any thoughts?

Hey there MrMarty - thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to the Community!
When you say the group's files, it sounds like you're referring to a shared folder - correct me if I'm wrong please.
If that's the case, note that shared folders take up space on all members and you can find more information about this here.
Let me know if that helps!

I refer to numerous shared folders, all accessible after logging in to my account. But I don't know what type of account (team?) they reside in or who is an admin. From what I can tell, all 5 of us can view the files uploaded by the others. I hope to have some answers shortly. Thanks!

MrMarty so basically, once you got access to the group's files, all of the files in the new folder that you got access to started counting against your Basic Plan quota.
Ask the person who invited you to send a shared link to the folder instead.
How do shared links affect my storage space?
Links that have been shared with you don’t take up space in your account, and you can download those files to your computer.
If you download a file from a shared link, you can edit your downloaded copy. However, your edits won’t sync with the original file that was shared with you.

Hi MrMarty,
Just wanted to check in and mention we cover this scenario in one of our FAQ pages.
It will be covered under "Shared folders take up space in my Dropbox account".

I have a meeting tomorrow with the person who I believe is an admin to sort things out. Will update. Thanks.
