Why can't I get my storage usage down no matter how much i delete?

I have ben deleting all my large files and I clicked "delete" for all the large folders that were shared with me, but Dropbox still seems to think I am "using" all this extra storage space. Also, why...

It can sometimes take a little bit for the usage to update after deleting a lot of data. Check it again in a bit. Also, if you're removing folders that are shared with you and your intent is to permanently leave the share, make sure you follow the full process.

That's not how shared folders work. You're not linking to their storage. You get your own copy of the folder in your account, and it syncs with the original. Since it's in your account, it takes up space.
