A folder that I removed using selective sync still takes up space on my HD.

Hi there, I uploaded a 100GB file via my dropbox folder on my hard drive. Once it was synced I moved that file into a separate folder online that was had selective sync turned off on my harddrive. The file moved and "disappeared" from my HD dropbox folder, yet the folder still says it's taking up 100GB of hd space on my desktop. Does it take time for the file to stop taking up disk space? Or is something else going on?  Guidance would be appreciated -- Thanks!

Yes. It moves to the hidden Dropbox cache just in case you decide to restore it in a day or so. It will automatically become free again in a few days.

Or, if you need the space now you can manually clear it via https://help.dropbox.com/delete-restore/cache-folder
