Dropbox desktop app won't install on Windows 11 and gives me an error
Hi there, Dropbox does not complete installation on a new Win 11 install that has been fully updated.
This is the latest error code:
I've tried different things for 2-3 days no and nothing has worked. I've rebooted, etc ad nauseum between each attempt:
- Normal install
- Normal install, run as admin
- Offline installer
- Offline installer, run as admin
- Offline installer run as admin with all antivirus/firewall turned off
I'm in China, so tried all the above with and without VPN turned on.
Any thoughts?
After a few weeks of trying to isolate the problem, it seems that the issue was with Astrill VPN setting up a .dll file that messed things up. Since I needed Astrill on to get Dropbox to work due to local issues, then it wasn't easy to isolate the problem.
I think, though, with the '5 eyes' privacy issues and the political issues currently exacerbating over the Atlantic, it's time for me to switch to European-based companies and servers. Thank you, Dropbox. It's been a good run.

Still stuck here. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Any logs or file dumps I can post here to help?
If I can't get Dropbox to install, I'm going to have to look for alternatives.

Hey Sir_Caramel, have you tried creating a new user profile to see if the issue persists there?

Hello Hannah,
I tried to do that - same thing.
I didn't expect it would be a fix - the error occurs during installation before user account sign-in/account creation. Thank you for your help so far, though.
Looking through the forum, this seems to be a problem that is cropping up for a few other users.
I asked earlier but got no reply - are there any logs or file dumps I can send in to help faciliate and expedite the process to remedy this situation? I've already had to set up Sync to get on with my work. I don't want to dump Dropbox entirely because of this problem.
Thanks.

Dell_DropboxThanks for the heads up. I did a full Dropbox uninstall with Regedit clearup after win 11 app uninstall. After reinstalling, I get the same error message as in OP.
Not working here, for some reason. - Sir_Caramel8 months agoHelpful | Level 7
