Thanks for clarifying that for me OldMacGuy - much appreciated.
Full support for macOS 12.5 and higher has started rolling out. Broader availability will begin in November as we work to preserve the reliability and quality of our sync experience. You will be notified when youâre eligible enroll your other device as well.
So, in essence, this is an update to ensure that the Dropbox desktop app continues working seamlessly on your devices and what you noticed is actually part of this process.
We currently have a private beta, which will be more widely available in October. If youâre interested in joining, you can turn on early releases.
I hope this helps!

I would like to know this too.
About a year ago I bought a new iMac and 2 superfast external drives BECAUSE Dropbox supported this.
These drives need to be synced at all time and simply cannot be put in online storage online.
All my files for development are there with several projects that need tens of thousands of live files for performance reasons.
Even worse; all my previously synced files from my external drives have disappeared from my Dropbox account.
Please react and fix this asap!
This is a major breach of contract and reason to file a law suit

By the way....
It should be very easy for DropBox to solve this: Symlinks
A few years ago Dropbox deciced to not follow symlinks and only copy the symlink file itself.
If it would allow at least symlinks to external drives, this issue would be solved right away.
