Dropbox Location Change on MacOS 12.6
Just installed DropBox update v157.4.4808 on a MacbookPro 13,3 running MacOS 12.6. DropBox location was moved by installer to ~/library/CloudStorage and alias moved from "Favorites" to "Locations" i...

Thanks for clarifying that for me OldMacGuy - much appreciated.
Full support for macOS 12.5 and higher has started rolling out. Broader availability will begin in November as we work to preserve the reliability and quality of our sync experience. You will be notified when youâre eligible enroll your other device as well.
So, in essence, this is an update to ensure that the Dropbox desktop app continues working seamlessly on your devices and what you noticed is actually part of this process.
We currently have a private beta, which will be more widely available in October. If youâre interested in joining, you can turn on early releases.
I hope this helps!

4 years agoHi all, thanks for reaching out about this.
As part of the Dropbox for macOS update, the Dropbox folder must be located in ~/Library/CloudStorage.
Some other things to note about the Dropbox folder location:
- Changing the location of your Dropbox folder is no longer supported by macOS.
- Due to the change of the Dropbox folder location, files that were previously linked in some third-party applications may need to be linked again.
- Storing your Dropbox folder on an external drive is no longer supported by macOS.
- Your Dropbox folder in Finder will now be found under Locations and no longer under Favorites.
- Individual folders can be moved from your Dropbox folder to Favorites for quick access.
We hope that helps!

Where is the "Dislike" button?
The answers are consistent - we can't use alt drives for dropbox. This is a CORRUPTIVE "feature". See following...
I had an alias down into my Dropbox (and placed this alias into the finder sidebar) before it got moved. However, now that the Dropbox got moved, my alias is no longer pointing to anything in the active Dropbox space. Worse yet - I've been saving files (using my alias) for at least a month and just now discovered this alias no longer syncs with my moved-Dropbox anymore! Now I have two different locations of duplicated (yet different in versions) files all over the place!
WHAT A MESS!
How can I fix this? Or should I just delete Dropbox and go to Box or something else?

I had Dropbox from its earliest days and paid for a 2TB plan. I've now cancelled Dropbox because it has become worthless due to the location change (lack of support for external drives) and the fact that Dropbox has also become intrusive (almost malware like) to the MacOS system itself. The MacOS "Screen Capture" function has been taken over by Dropbox, despite me having said "NO" to using Dropbox as its destination. The only way to restore the default "Screen Capture" mode is via using the Terminal application. I now use Sync.com. A little slower, but that is because, unlike Dropbox, it uses end-to-end encryption.

I was unaware of this issue, until i last night was hit with the same prompt y'all is dealing with.
my entire teams work structure is now utterly crippled and i'm literally here in the studio in the weekend pulling out my hair trying to navigate the damage this has created so far.
so many broken links, so much data just mixed up now between client computers and our edit computers. it's such a mess.
is there really no update from Dropbox side? this is a costly move for many of their more pro clients.
jeeesus christ.

I posted this already but I'm guessing Dropbox has deleted it.
This will solve the problem for those that want Dropbox syncing on their external drive. I found out from Daring Fireball (John Gruber) - always a good resource. It uses the Dropbox API to access your Dropbox and sync separately.
Here's some caveats and help for issues: https://daringfireball.net/2023/07/nerding_out_with_maestral_launchcontrol_and_keyboard_maestro
