Hi everyone,
We're testing out some changes in v182 (currently in beta) that should hopefully help with this. Let us know if you continue to run into problems.
Thanks

Just want to give my thumbs down. Can't do a system restore because of the exact same error message. Microsoft OneDrive has reasonable basic features to match Dropbox, so there's no point in using Dropbox if they can't fix this or work with Microsoft to fix this. Its been at least a year since this issue has been reported and no action taken by Dropbox to remedy this.

If anyone is interested, perhaps you can do a test?
Do a restore point but exclude c:\dropbox\.dropbox.cache ?
This says you might be able to exclude certain folders?

It won't work. I tried that earlier and still the same result. My solution since I unfortunately didn't have a choice to choose another cloud storage provider, was to get a second SSD for my laptop (which, fortunately, had a second SSD slot), and move the Dropbox folder there. Now the system is restorable.
I'm really surprised this problem has not been addressed one way or another yet.. it's a major bug! - SwanCobb6 years agoCollaborator | Level 10
I've tried to restore back last week's restore point but I keep getting the error mentioned by OP. I tried the registry entry to exclude \Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\*.* /s
Does anyone know if you re-script or edit the restore point and delete \Dropbox\.dropbox.cache content?

The only thing that has worked for me is to Shut Down Dropbox, BEFORE creating a System Restore Point, as follows:
1. Exit Dropbox using the SysTray icon (drop-down your picture at the top right.
2. STOP the "Dropbox Service" (DbxSvc)
3. Create Restore Point
4. Start the "Dropbox Service" (DbxSvc)
5. Click "Start", type "Dropbox" to start the Dropbox APP, hit enter
After doing this, I was able to do a Restore based on that Restore Point. I haven't tried to create a Batch File for this yet.
