Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox don't show up in "Recent"
Hi all, this is a niche issue and probably not Dropbox's "fault", but thought I'd ask here just in case.
Since I upgraded to the latest version of Dropbox for Mac (which moved the folder location, etc.), Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox no longer show up in File > Open Recent or in the Recent tab of Logic's startup window.
The same thing was already happening with Google Drive for Desktop, so I would guess it's a general issue with the File Provider API. However, projects stored in iCloud Drive do show up in Recent.
Other Apple apps (TextEdit, Pages) will show files from Dropbox in the Open Recent menu. (And Dropbox-stored Logic projects do show up in Recent Items under the top-left Apple menu.)
Making the folders available offline doesn't help.
Running Logic 10.7.6 in Ventura 13.1 on an M1 MacBook Pro.
Any ideas?
Hallelujah! It's fixed in Logic 10.8!

Right, Megan's answer isn't accurate. FCPX won't even let you save projects to cloud storage (see screenshot below), whereas as I mentioned in my original post, Logic projects can be saved to iCloud Drive and will show up in Recent if opened from there.
I still think it's more of a general issue with Apple's cloud storage protocols than with Dropbox in particular, because again, projects stored in Google Drive for Desktop have the same issue of not showing up in Recent. But the issue is not, as far as I can tell, that Logic projects can't be stored in the cloud.
- ReDRuMx3 years agoHelpful | Level 6Correct. Another reason I think that Megan's answer is not correct is because - Advanced mega hyper Dropbox support specialist told me so via email :). They said the reason why my projects are not syncing to THE OTHER MACHINE (crucial bit of info) is because my two machines are using different APIs (if someone - including Megan - wants to know why, I can explain).
Point is, Logic projects are being synced to Dropbox, but are not syncing to my other PC.
I was told "they are fixing it".
Megan, kindly, what are they fixing if it's not supposed to work?
Also, I appologise for the assertive tone, but you keep ignoring straightforward questions and keep giving confusing info, which in turn costs people time and effort.
"I'm not sure" or "I don't know yet" are perfectly valid answers. Thanks - doppyjoe3 years agoHelpful | Level 5If this is the case, how comes Sync hasn’t made the changes?

It seems Sync doesn't use the Apple File Provider API: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34650987
Unclear whether they will eventually be forced to play ball.

I have this problem as well. Very annoying, I use recent items exclusively when opening Logic

Any news?

I'm having this same issue with Logic not recalling recent items. I save my Logic files in Dropbox so as to have a nice backup so i'd like to leave them there... Did anyone figure a simple fix yet? If not i'll just swap over to Apple folder i guess...

I created a ticket for it, I'll let you know if they find anything

They'll definitely find something. A graveyard of other tickets on the same topic 🙂 🙂

Dropbox support told me that Logic files are not officially supported, Apple has to develop an API that is compatible with dropbox.
For Logic files I switched to iCloud now.
