Recently "File type not supported"
I have a few small (< 1MB) password protected Excel files in a shared Dropbox folder that I've used for several years. The past few days I have been unable to view the files and I get the purple target and "File type not supported - Couldn't download file. Please try opening in another app."
If I remove the password in the file & save it, I am again able to view it. I need these files to remain password protected
This change seems to have occurred within the past several days.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Hi everyone and thanks for your feedback.
If you’re all seeing the exact same thing, can you please click on the 3 dots showing on the top right corner of your screen, and scroll down the dropdown menu a bit? Are you seeing the “Open with” option perhaps and if yes, can you open your files this way?

Hey pw-mc, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please let me know if this happens when you preview the file through the mobile app or the website?
Also, what is your device's exact OS version and the version of the Dropbox mobile app installed there?
Are you able to open it normally after downloading or exporting the file to your device?
Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Walter,
-This happens only when I attempt to view the file in the mobile app. It opens fine through the website as well as when exported to my device.
-Galaxy S9 running Android v. 10 Kernel 4.9.186
-Dropbox app v. 324.2.2
I do not edit the file from within the app, I use it only for viewing.
-Thanks

Thanks for the additional information pw-mc - could you also send us a screenshot of the error you get (omitting any personal information)?

- Normie3 years agoNew member | Level 2Just to let you know that I am having exactly the same problem with Dropbox on my Android phone. It started a few days ago. I am consistently getting the File Type Not Supported message when trying to open Excel Spreadsheets .xlsx files, some with a password and some without. This never used to happen until very recently, so what has changed? I tried reinstalling Dropbox without any effect. I am using Android 13 with security update on April 5th.

I am getting the same error message and the only way out is to remove the password protection. Without password prtection the file opens , put it on again and you get the sane error message. Something happened lately because this never occured to me before

I am having the same issue for the past few weeks. I tried OPEN WITH and it works. Are we gonna have to open this way from now on or is this going to be fixed? It only happens on 1 of my xlsx files. Others open fine just clicking on them.
I'm using Android S21 Ultra 5g OS 13
thanks,
