MacOS: No "Dropbox" in the "Location" settings of Finder
I have updated Dropbox on MacOS (12.6.5), and I have learned that I should know be able to see "Dropbox" in Finder on the left hand pane under 'Locations'. However there is no such entry; 'Locations'...

Hey rovf, thanks for letting us know about this.
Can you please hover your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, to see the sync status and the version of the app?
Also, if you go to ~/Library/CloudStorage, are you able to find the Dropbox folder?
Let me know and we'll go from there.

Can I manually move the Dropbox folder to ~/Library/CloudStorage? Will this cause any problems? The update clearly isn't working - 5th try failed and I won't be trying again unless the bug is fixed on your end.

2 years agoI'm afraid you won't be able to manually move your Dropbox folder there Buel
Would it be OK if we sent you an email to look further into this issue internally at this point?

UPDATE: I figured it out... The checkmark wasn't checked in Finder Preferences. It was just a line...checked it and it returned.
I'm having the same issue. I accidentally dragged the Dropbox item from Locations in the Finder and now I can't get it back. How did this get resolved? Please help. - bleest2 years agoExplorer | Level 3
I've been reading tons of threads to solve my issues with Dropbox. Here are the basics:
Sonoma 14.3.1
Dropbox : v194.2.4210
Dropbox used to appear under iCloud in Finder and I could drag and drop files into it and it would show up online. Suddenly Dropbox does not appear in Finder under iCloud and a '1' in notifications on Menu bar persistently appears although I have no notifications or news. I've done a clean install of Dropbox. I can access my Dropbox through my Menu bar (upper RHS) but that is it.
Any help is appreciated.

Hey bleest, let's jump right into this!
When you say that your Dropbox used to show up under your iCloud in Finder, what do you mean exactly?
I'm asking, since iCloud is a different path, and one can't exist within the other. Can you send me a screenshot of the place your Dropbox folder used to be in?
As for the second issue, about the notification: Are you sure that you checked all the notification tabs on the Dropbox icon? Perhaps there's one you missed.
Can you also hover your mouse over the Dropbox icon, and confirm the version of the Dropbox desktop app, along with its syncing status?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

I think this screenshot indicates that everything suggested so far is in order.
- macOS Sequoia 15.0
- Dropbox 209.4.3661
- Dropbox using File Provider
- ~/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox is present and functional
- "Cloud Storage" is selected in Finder Sidebar "Locations" preferences
- But "Dropbox" is not present in Finder Sidebar "Locations"

Hi NilsE, from the screenshot, it seems that the Dropbox folder doesn't have any sync icons on it, meaning it's either not linked to the account somehow, or it's not syncing, despite the other information you provided.
Could you open the Dropbox folder and let me know if you see any sync icons next to any of the files in the folder?
