I wonder if the solution here isn't to make sure all files are fully synchronized, quit out of it, uninstall Dropbox, and then just reinstall fresh to resync files. Not sure why but I wasn't having any issue with this... but I think I uninstalled Dropbox at one point since I was running the files on my local NAS which has a cloud sync feature (which is very useful) for Synology.
But I needed files for my laptop when I'm on the go that can't wait until I get home, so maybe this was a permissions issue where I gave it full disk access in Privacy settings in Settings for Mac Ventura. All these posts almost sound like the system can't access the folder but doesn't tell you that it can't except by just not installing the update and prompting you all the time.

Alissa:
I'll give it a try and see what happens ... Will report back with what I find.
Thank you.

Hi,
My problem (same as this ones) was referred to Dropbox support, there were a number of things I tried with the support person.
I then got some higher priority items to work on so I haven't been able to get back to the resolution with the support person.
All the things we were trying seemed to be permission related.
I suggest that yours get refferrered to Support to look at, I don't have the time to waste anymore.
It seems to be a Mac OS Ventura problem, because my iMac Late 2012 is NOT having the same problem

Thanks ...
How do I get this kicked up the food chain?

I have this same problem. Ever since I updated to Ventura 13.3.1, Dropbox just shows "Starting ..." and the drive keeps spinning until (hours later) I get tired of it and quit Dropbox. When it's showing "starting ā¦" other apps won't run, presumably because I have ALL my files in Dropbox.
I have restarted the computer a couple of times, uninstalled Dropbox and re-installed, all with no effect.
I'm on a MacBookPro 13-inch, 2020, 4 ports.
Would really appreciate some help. I can't work!
Thank you.

Hi ProfP1313, welcome to our Community!
Now, let's jump straight into this, and check a few things. Can you check the app's precise syncing status, along with the version you're using, and let me know more? You can find the version by hovering your mouse over the little Dropbox icon, on your menu bar, next to your WiFi.
Also, how long is the app stuck in this starting limbo?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!
- Oshioyi3 years agoExplorer | Level 3Hi. I don't know if the update is done. This is the loop.
Notification to update. Click update. Dropbox quits. Dropbox loads. Have to relogin again. 2FA entered. Dropbox icon in tray has notification icon. Same message is there. Repeat.
So I don't know if the update is done successfully. - Oshioyi3 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Hi
I've managed to get it working after multiple attempts.

Hi
Can I ask what version of Mac OS you are running
I have been having problems with Mac OS Ventura 13.3.1
My iMac at home which is a fair bit older, has no problems it is the MacBook Pro 15" 2019 that is having the problems
Thanks

Same issue here on a brand new Mac Studio. "Dropbox for macOS on File Provider is now ready." Currently at v177.4.5399. I've run through the process a few times and upon starting Dropbox, it tells me again that I should update.

Hi All,
My Problem has been solved by Ned
This is the reference ticket number, the solution is customised for the individual user because there needs to be specific commands that need to be executed using sudo with specific folder names
Ticket #22401840: Dropbox Community Support - Follow Up
Thank you all

Please note -
(1) Change where there is /UserName/ to match the user name that is logged into the Mac
(2) Also .dropbox-two maybe different path, the information came from the error text file that I sent to support
Below is from Support
To ensure that the software is working correctly, Iād like you to do a complete reinstall to try to fix the problem. This will not affect or remove the files in your Dropbox folder.
Please save and quit all programs accessing files in the Dropbox folder, and then follow these instructions:
Note: Please be sure to take note or take a screenshot of any Selective Sync settings you may have applied as well as the location of your Dropbox folder (if not in the default location) prior to re-installing, as you will need to match these settings upon re-install.
1) Stop Dropbox (If needed):
- Click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen
- Click on your profile picture or initials to the right of the search bar and select 'Quit Dropbox'
2) Download the newest version:
https://www.dropbox.com/downloading
3) Open your Terminal app (Located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
4) Copy and paste the following lines into the Terminal, ONE AT A TIME, and press ENTER after each one. PLEASE make sure you copy and paste these commands (don't type them by hand), as getting them wrong could cause some harm. You'll be prompted for your computer's admin password (not your Dropbox password) after entering the first command. Keep in mind that the password field in the terminal will remain blank as you type your password. After you type it, just press ENTER. You'll know that these instructions complete normally once the initial line of text (called prompt) comes up again:
sudo chown "$USER" "$HOME"
sudo chown -R "$USER" "/Users/UserName/.dropbox-two/Dropbox"
sudo chmod -R u+rw "/Users/UserName/.dropbox-two/Dropbox"
sudo mv ~/.dropbox ~/.Trash/dropbox.old
sudo chmod -N ~
sudo mv /Library/DropboxHelperTools ~/DropboxHelperTools.old
Please note that once the prompt displays, the instruction completed the requested task and is ready for the next command. If the command returns an error or does not respond after an hour, you may want to try restarting your computer and try these steps again.
5) Delete the Dropbox application from the Applications folder. You may need to provide your computer password in order to perform this action.
6) Open the .dmg file from step # 2 and double click the Dropbox icon to install Dropbox.
7) When Dropbox has finished installing, during the initial setup and sign in process, apply any Selective Sync settings you may have had prior to the reinstall and select the Dropbox folder location (if not in the default location).
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because this process removes the previous settings and configuration, if you wish to avoid re-downloading your Dropbox content, you will need to manually choose the location for Dropbox to sync to, otherwise you will create a new Dropbox folder which will start to download your content again.
To select your already established folder on your drive, after signing in and choosing which folders to sync, and before you click on "Open my Dropbox folder", you should see an "Advanced Settings" link, click on this.
Then you can choose the parent folder of the already established Dropbox folder. For example, if you have your Dropbox folder in the path "/Volumes/DifferentPlace/Dropbox (Team)" you'll want to select the folder "/Volumes/DifferentPlace/".
At the end of this process, after clicking "Open my Dropbox folder", it might take some time to re-index the files and sync any pending changes.
