Moving Dropbox app to external hard drive when I am not the administrator of the account.

I am not the administrator of my office's Dropbox account, and I also use the Dropbox desktop app.  My C drive is now full and no longer syncing.  I purchased an external hard drive and need to move my desktop app to the external drive.  Can you tell me if there's any way to do that when I am not the administrator?  The admin of our Dropbox account is not available, so I can't ask them.  It took me about 4 minutes to type this because my C drive is so full, I can only type about one character at a time.

Hi MChat1, can you try this link instead?

No need to uninstall the app, just re-install it.

Thanks for the new link.  However, I'm afraid to try to reinstall because I only have 1g available on my hard drive, and if this new app is larger than the old, it won't work.

Good day, Megan: Will this new reinstall work if I only have 1.07gb left on my hard drive?  Is it larger than the old app?

Hey MChat1, reinstalling the Dropbox app shouldn't affect your hard drive space usage.

Let us know how it goes!

My Dropbox app icon finally showed up ... it disappears off and on.  I don't have it today, but when I had access to it day before yesterday, I did a selective sync and only clicked the folders that I wanted to show up on my Desktop app.  However, it hasn't taken anything off my hard drive and it is still full.  Can you explain why and what I should do next?  Also, what should I do about not having access to the icon only occasionally?

Hmm, does the icon re-appear after you reinstall and then it goes away again?

Have you tried uninstalling the app, restarting your computer and then reinstalling it, to see if that helps?

I have now downloaded and reinstalled the Dropbox App from your link, did a selective sync, but my C drive is still full.  I only have 3.8gb left, and now Dropbox has stopped syncing because it has no room.  What do you suggest?  Also, is there any way to remove individual documents from my Desktop that were not placed inside a folder in Dropbox itself?

Hi MChat1, regarding files that aren't in the Dropbox folder itself, we wouldn't be able to advise on what you should do with them.

Regarding the Dropbox desktop application, could you check to see that it isn't in hiding in the up arrow ^ that was shown in the image Rich provided?

If so, drag the icon to the main section near the clock so it remains permanently visible. From there, you should be able to click that icon to move the Dropbox folder to an external drive.
