As an update, I manually reinstalled the Dropbox App and that worked successfully I am now running version 216.4.4420.

PS: You cannot disable the auto-updates at this moment as each new version of the Dropbox desktop app includes a number of key updates so it’s important that you run the latest version whenever possible.
