Transferring files from desktop Dropbox to desktop Box - properties missings and files don't open

I can see this problem was discussed 11 years ago and a member describes the problem in a reply 10 years ago, but I still don't find the solution.

I am trying to move files from my desktop Dropbox to my desktop (LU) BOX, like I have done countless of times before this. But I get a warning that the properties will not get copied with the file. I tried to ignore it but then I am not able to open the file after it has been copied into BOX. It has so far been Excel files and PNG I've tried to transfer, without luck.

I would most appreciate help with this.

    Hey gvi!

Hope things are going smoothly! Just wanted to check if you still need a hand. If all's well, feel free to share what did the trick.

Okay, so you're referring to the other cloud provider Box.

What happens if you copy files from the Dropbox folder to another folder that isn't the Box folder?

Box is like Dropbox, a cloud storing service, with a desktop version like Dropbox. And yes, Windows Explorer.

HI gvi, just for clarification, when you say you're moving files from Dropbox onto your Box (which I gather is the name of your machine), are you moving the files from the Dropbox folder directly to another folder outside of the Dropbox folder?

Are you using Windows Explorer when moving the file?

I thought as you, that it had been offline, but they had green marking and still had the same issue. I tried copying them to the local drive (my computer) and then it was alright. Then I moved it from the computer and to the Box, and then the error popped up. BUT, when I logged in to the webversion on Box and uploaded files from the desktop Dropbox via the web version, then it worked just fine.

Sorry the screenshot is largely in Icelandic... but I think you will manage nevertheless.

Hey gvi, thanks for joining our Community!

Let's see what we can find out about this.

Are the files you're moving set to 'online-only' or 'available offline'?

If they're online-only, first switch them to available offline and then try to move them again, to see if that makes a difference.

If not, please send me a screenshot of the message, so I can have a visual and assist you better.

    Thanks!
