Two Dropbox folders after installing new app

OK, I downloaded and installed the new Dropbox app...now I have two Dropbox folders -- ugh!

How do I delete the old one without losing any content????

Hey gmoorehn, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

Can you let us know a bit more about your setup?

Is this a Mac or Windows computer?

And is this the first time you install the Dropbox app on this computer or have you been using it?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

    Thanks for the update, gmoorehn.

You mentioned that you now have two Dropbox folders; what are the locations of each Dropbox folder?

Also, if you hover over the Dropbox icon on your system tray, what is the sync status and version of the app?

The original folder is now on the desktop labeled as Dropbox, but it does not have the DB icon.

The new one has taken over the desktop folder (DB icon), but it is just a link -- I can't tell where it is pointing.

The old one continues to update (it contains new files that I download), but the new one has not updated. This is the folder that comes up if I hover of the icon in the system tray.

It is trying to update, but my disk filled up when it started downloading, so nothing is actually syncing. Also, no new files have been added to my online DB location.

It looks like the DB app died (maybe because the disk filled up?).

I deleted some files off my disk and restarted DB.

I then copied the recent files into the new DB folder, but after 10 minutes, they are still waiting to sync.

Task manager shows DB running with up to 16% of my cpu and using 1.6 GB memory, but I can't tell which files are syncing...

Sorry, you asked about the version of the DB app.

As I said in my initial post, I downloaded the new version of the App.  I don't know how to find the version number.

Hey gmoorehn, thanks for the additional info.

The version of the app is the number you see next to the word "Dropbox", when you hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray.

If the two Dropbox folder issue persists now, can you send us a couple of screenshots showing the issue as well, so we can have a visual?

    This is a bit frustrating...

Now there is NO Dropbox icon in the tray, but I can see what looks like a version number when I run Task Manager and look at "Dropbox Properties".

    It shows:  Dropbox_195.3.4884.0_x64_xbfy0l16key96.

The problem is that the Dropbox install app from Microsoft installed a second version of my Dropbox and I need to know how to delete one of those without permanently deleting the files from the online version at the Dropbox site.

I downloaded the version that was current on the Microsoft store on March 5th.

Hi from me too, gmoorehn, and sorry to jump in.

To have a visual and help us troubleshoot this further, can you send over a couple of screenshots of what you see on your end? More specifically, I’d like a screenshot of the old Dropbox folder and the new one.

As for the Dropbox app not running, did you relaunch it on your computer, and the Dropbox icon still disappears?
