Using existing dropbox folder

Hello,

I have formatted my PC and reinstalled Dropbox app again, my original Dropbox folder was and still in a different drive which I would like to continue using and sync locally, however when I installed the new app it directs me to a new Dropbox folder which I want to change location to the existing one by preference/sync/Dropbox folder location, but it give me an error saying: "Can't create a Dropbox folder in the requested location".

I don't want to delete all my files and resync again it will take ages to finish full sync, I would like to start from where it was sync.

Anyone has a solution for that?

Regards

Hi Graph Architects, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

If you perform an advanced reinstallation, you can also select the location of the folder in the Advanced Settings portion of the installation.

Make sure to choose the 'parent' folder that the Dropbox folder will be residing, for example if your old folder is in E:Files\Dropbox, choose E:Files, and the app will detect the old folder and re-index it.

Keep me updated with any progress!

Jay, did something change in a year? I had this same problem and I searched and found your solution. But instead of re-indexing my existing Dropbox folder, the app renamed it "Dropbox (old)" and then created a a new "Dropbox" and started indexing that one. So now I have two folders. Can I delete the "old" one now? Thanks!

If it says Dropbox (Old) then that means that you're currently signed into a different Dropbox account than the previous one. Are you certain that you signed into the same account?

Thanks for the response, Jay. You are right, I have two logins, one is personal and the other is connected to a group/business account. And since I only use the app to access the business stuff, I'm certain I created the "old" folder using the same business login. So, it's a mystery. At any rate, I'm going to delete the "old" folder because it's basically a duplicate now.
