Why does Dropbox for MacBook keep 'removing' itself?
Hi,
Myself and multiple users in my organisation have an issue where the Dropbox installed App on our MacBooks 'removes itself.
By this, I mean, Dropbox will still be installed, we can navigate VIA finder, however we are suddenly unable to open the files. When we navigate to Dropbox on the menubar, the icon has been removed, but the space for it is still there, when clicking it, it pulls up the Dropbox pop up as normal.
When we go to share files we are presented with the options that can be seen below.
What we have to do is redownload the Dropbox installer and reinstall Dropbox. When the install is done, we dont need to do anything else, no resyncing files etc. It picks up where it left off.. Really weird.
This is happening for people on different versions of MacBooks, different versions of Dropbox etc.
Any advise?
One of the solutions which helped me was, on the offline installer, when its window pops up for you to double click to install, instead of doing the double click, drag and drop the Dropbox Icon into your Apple applications folder instead.
No idea why, but this worked for some of our users.

I have no idea how but all of a sudden, it appears to be finally resolved for me. And only after about 5 months of frustration! I'm now running version 229.3.5074 (Apple Silicon version) and as of now, I have only added my work account. I removed my personal account to see if that would help but now I'm afraid to add it back. I'll give it another week or so before pushing my luck. I'm not positive but I believe I installed the enterprise edition also. I did not remove my AV software either. Fingers crossed it doesn't revert back to removing itself. I'll post again if I see any changes.

Hi loganvie! Thanks for reporting this here.
Do you happen to know the app version of your client’s Dropbox app?
Did they notice this issue after a specific Dropbox or OS update on their computer?
Finally, since you mention you’ve already tried all troubleshooting steps listed in this thread, I’m guessing you’ve tried both a basic and an advanced reinstall of the Dropbox app. Is this correct?

This is also happening for a client I am trying to assist. We can get it working by uninstalling and reinstalling, but it breaks when the Macbook restarts. We have allowed it in the security software, we even tried turning off the security software entirely as a test. The MacOS is 15.5 and is an M1 processor. I have tried all the methods listed in this thread, and nothing sticks. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I tried what joecohs suggested as the last thing support told me was to wipe my computer and don't install my AV software which goes against my company's policies. Also, it's happening to our CEO and I'm not going to tell him I have to wipe his computer and it may help. I guess I'll see if this works but after 5 months+ of fighting with this, my expectations aren't high.

Hey marksow!
If you could try out what joecohs suggested that'd be great. In any case, if you notice the same behavior, let me know, and I'll reach out internally about this.

Nancy still not resolved. I was advised by technical support to do an advanced reinstall and then use the offline installer specific to my Macbook processor. I did this and appeared to be more stable but then the issue happened again earlier this week - the app removed itself or was removed somehow and I needed to reinstall again.
