Google Sheets & Slides crashes with Chrome browser
Hoping someone can help as Dropbox is saying this is a Chrome issue and can't resolve.
My company uses Dropbox for files. I open excel & powerpoint files from dropbox.com to google sheets & slides. Once I start typing in the google sheets or google slides file, it immediately crashes Chrome. With Google Docs, this isn't an issue with Chrome. It apparently is not an issue with anyone else in the company editing the dropbox.com files using google sheets or slides.
Noting, I don't have any issues editing google sheets or slides in Safari with dropbox files, but I would like to avoid using more than one browser at work as we use a lot of Google applications and really only use Google.
I've already done the following:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome
- Cleared cookies and cache
Thanks for the help in advance!

- bravomartin4 years agoExplorer | Level 3The problem comes back every once in a while. It’s really annoying to be working and suddenly receive the ball of death and have to restart chrome. I have unlinked google apps several times and the issue continues

Hannah I can still open Google docs or spreadsheets from your website or from my Dropbox desktop.
However, they still crash almost immediately after opening. This is debilitating to our work.
Thoughts?

Thanks everybody for your comments here and sorry to see you're having this issue.
Have you all tried to see if you get a different behavior with another browser?
I see that you have tried with Safari, sustainingfarmers, but have you also tried with an incognito window on Chrome? What happens there?
tannerfalk and bravomartin, please try through incognito as well and let me know what you see.

I have the same problem. It works fine with Safari. On Chrome, I can open an excel sheet, but if I tried to edit, it crashes the browser - not just the tab.

Tried an incognito window, does not work.
Dropbox continuously prompts me to login to my google account, although I already did that. - sustainingfarmers4 years agoHelpful | Level 7
Hannah, an incognito window doesn't work for the reason cited by tannerfalk.
This is not a problem with Google Drive files on their own. They function outside of Dropbox seamlessly. However, the purpose of the Google-Dropbox integration was for Dropbox users to be able to create and store all kinds of files within the same system: Dropbox.
The Google integration WITH Dropbox is the problem. We have to be logged into our Google Workspace accounts for the integration with Dropbox to function at all.
This was billed as an exciting new feature through Dropbox a couple of years ago. I watched a whole presentation on it by the Dropbox founder! We signed up for a Google Workspace account and a Dropbox Business account primarily to have the functionality provided by this integration. Without it functioning, leaving Dropbox entirely is a real consideration, sadly.
Maybe this is an issue that Dropbox can troubleshoot with Google engineers to provide the functionality promised? I feel confident that it is not a user issue.
