I see a "Sorry, xxxxxx.docx is stored in an unsupported server location" error for Word files.

Device
iPad
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
(Windows 10
Dropbox App Version/Browser Version
Chrome 124, Safari 17 etc.

Question or Issue
When trying to open a document stored in Dropbox in Word the following message appears: Can’t open file. Sorry, xxxxxx.docx is stored in an unsupported server location. How can I fix this.

Hi SandyWilson, and welcome back to our Community.

Can you send me a full screenshot of the error message you’re receiving on your end, so that I can also double check the Dropbox platform that you’re using?

Have you been getting this error message for some time, or did it only appear today?

Let me know when you’re ready.

Hi from me as well, SandyWilson!

Just wanted to confirm something; when this error appears, are you opening files that are set to online-only or are they available offline?

If they're online-only, can you first switch them to available offline and then try to open them again to see if the issue persists?
