Is it possible to directly open a file with Google Doc

For now, on Mac, there is an option "View on dropbox.com". I'm wondering if there is any workaround such that I can directly open docx files with Google Doc.

I understand that I can create GDocs on dropbox, but I do not want to deal with the access permission issues, and I just want to edit the file with GDoc rather than creating a GDoc file.

I have tried to play around with the url, but it didn't work.

Any help / idea is appreciated.

Just in case I didn't make it clear.

Right now, when clicking view on dropbox, it will bring me to a preview of the document on dropbox. I have to manually click open with google doc, and I just want to save this process: as soon as I click the view on dropbox (or something else), it will directly bring me to the google doc view of the document.

    Thanks.

Hi mono77, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Have you tried setting the 'default editing apps' on this page on the site?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi Jay, thanks a lot for your help. Yes I have already set the default editing apps to GDoc etc.

Hi Rogaa, thanks for your help, but this is not what I'm seeking for. I DO NOT wish to create GDoc in my dropbox, as suggested in my original question.

    Hello @mono77

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, there isn't a direct option in Dropbox to open .docx files with Google Docs. However, you can download the file from Dropbox, upload it to Google Drive, and then open and edit it with Google Docs. Please check the latest features and updates from Dropbox and Google Docs for the most current information.
