Issue connecting Dropbox to Excel SMS (consent loop during login)

Hello,

I’m trying to connect Dropbox in the Excel SMS app on my smartphone. During the Dropbox sign-in process, the app keeps asking me to grant access permissions. After I accept, it returns me to the same consent screen again and again, so I can’t complete the connection.

This happens every time I try to link my Dropbox account within the app.

I’m attaching a screenshot showing the issue. Here is the app link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samapp.excelsms.excelsmsfull&hl=pl

Could you please advise what I should check or how to complete the authorization properly?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Michał

  • Hey michpli, thanks for reaching out to our Community.

To be honest, we don't have that much info on this, since this is a third party app and not an official Dropbox integration or Microsoft app.

Have you tried reaching out to ExcelSMS for more info?

What I can suggest is perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling both apps, to see if it helps, but that's about it.

Let me know what you find, though! It would be great to know how it went and of course, I'll leave this thread open, in case other users have a similar experience and info to share with you.

    Cheers!

Dropbox has recently updated their API servers to use certificates from a new root provider. If ExcelSMS uses an older SDK and it uses certain functions within the SDK, it would be unable to connect to Dropbox due to using incorrect certificates.

If this is the case for ExcelSMS, then the developer would need to update the app to use the latest version of the SDK to maintain compatibility.

Several other apps have had this issue as well and the results have been the same; an endless authentication loop. Typically, you can see that Dropbox receives the request and authorizes the app (the app appears connected on your Security page), but the app fails to handle the response correctly and just starts the process over again.

I tested this over the weekend with an older password manager app. I removed the app from my account and tried to reauthorize it. The app reappeared on my account but the authentication just looped within the app.

Thank you! I will inform the developer of this application!
