The instructions are fine but it depends on how you initiated the trial in the first place. Did sign up for the trial through the Dropbox website, or though the mobile app?

I signed up through the website. The insrtuctions said for the website that I can manage my plan in the settings but there it said that I have a basic plan and there was no button to manage anything. I have sent a registered letter finally through regular mail to cancel the free trial.

Hi Éva! Hope you're doing great.
If you're seeing a free Basic plan here, can you please double check whether you have a second email address that could be linked to the Dropbox account that was upgraded?
Also, if you've received charges from Dropbox in your bank statement, please check if there's a 12-digit transaction ID there, as well. In case there is, you can insert it here to find more details about the account in question.
Let me know what you find!
