Charged from using a free trial, even though I downgraded the account.
I have a free trial which ends today. I have downgraded my account to Dropbox Basic.
However I have been charged even before my free trial expires.
I have raised an issue, but am worried about whether the charge really is from Dropbox.
Could it be that the charge didn't come from Dropbox (as it was before the free trial ends), and could Dropbox themselves be hacked to get my credit card information and someone else charged me and called it dropbox?
Should I contact my credit card's fraud department to report the transaction?

Like most subscription services, you usually need to cancel a day before the final day of the trial or subscription. If you wait until the last day, the charge is already in the system. For instance, if it says the trial ends and you'll be billed on 11/18, waiting until 11/18 to cancel is too late. Most systems are probably set up to enter the charge at 12:00 AM on the day of renewal.
You can try contacting Support to see if they'll give you a refund. Visit the Support page while you're NOT signed in to a Dropbox account, including these forums, and you'll see an option for Billing issues. It's best to use an Incognito or Private browsing session to make sure you're not signed in.
Could it be that the charge didn't come from Dropbox ..Unlikely. If there's a transaction number on your statement you can use it to lookup the account using the credit card charge lookup tool.
... could Dropbox themselves be hacked to get my credit card information and someone else charged me and called it dropbox?Again, unlikely. If you want to be certain, you can ask your bank to verify the charge but it's likely not needed. If you waited until the last day of the trial you simply waited too long and Dropbox charged you.
