Allow user to turn of upgrade notifications

Hi there! I want to propose a function to allow users who do not need higher capacity or collaboration functionalities to turn off plan upgrade notifications.

Hey copyright - thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on this.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, could you send us a screenshot of a sample notification so that we can have a visual too?

    Thanks!

    Hi Walter!

Thank you very much for your response! The notification appears randomly on the website, so I cannot reproduce it right now; I will add a screenshot when I encounter it again!

Thank you and hope you have a great week!

I'd really like Dropbox to stop aggressively trying to up-sell me.

There is the bright-green box that has gotten larger, brighter and louder over the years. There is the prominent Invite members button, and when I tap on my icon there is another "Upgrade" Call to Action. That is a lot of prime UI real-estate used for trying to get me to up-sell.

Today I received a modal (a pop-up within the website) that made me think for a minute I was downgrade to free in how aggressive it was. After properly reading Dropbox tried to upgrade me again to the collaboration tools and I was able to dismiss the pop-up.
And then I have to mention the occasional emails suggesting me to upgrade.

These things are not obstructing my day-to-day, but I do find them obtrusive and feel unappreciated as a paying customer (for 15 years already).

I'm good with my 2TB of storage, I don't need to collaborate, I just need industry leading cloud storage and syncing. Dropbox Plus is fine for me, it's even on the expensive side comparing it to Google/Apple/Microsoft, but I am willing to pay for the quality.

So please stop pestering me with sticking these 'upgrade' propositions everywhere. Let me be Plus, don't get in my face.

I had a similar page-filling notification today prompting me to upgrade from Plus to whatever is above it. I share copyright his sentiment.

    Hi copyright

To disable general notifs from DropBox:

    1. Click the DropBox icon in your system tray
    2. Click the gear icon or your avatar and choose 'Preferences'
    3. Go to 'Notifications' tab
    4. Select and turn off the notifications you no longer want.

Unfortunately, from what I found, there is no official setting to turn off upgrade or update notifications from DropBox. You can try these workarounds but it does not guarantee that the notifs will not pop up later on.

    1. Disable Email and In-App Marketing Notifications      On DropBox web version, login to your account.
    2. Click your avatar > 'Settings'
    3. Go to Notifications tab and uncheck marketing-related options like, 'Tips about Dropbox features', 'News and updates from Dropbox', 'Special offers or promotions'.

    Hi Rik vdk ,
I'm Svilen, a Product Manager at Dropbox.
Thank you for your thoughtful piece of feedback.

I understand that upsell pop-ups can be annoying if you are already happy on your current plan. We are working on making our customers' experience more relevant and personalized, so we hope to solve this issue in the future.

As another user has noted above, you can go to 'Notifications' and turn off emails.

As for, in-product popups, I've shared this thread with our teams working on monetization and upsells to make sure it's been reviewed and accounted for.

    Best,
    Svilen
