Wrong user name in my profile

I received an email saying my drop box was full but couldn't remember my password so I did a reset but now when I log in the user name that appears in not mine! Plus there are no files at all. It's like I'm logged into someone else's account (which makes me nervous).... Help!

Hey gcolmer, thanks for bringing this to our attention and what a strange issue indeed!

Can you please double-check that you used the exact same email address as your original account, make sure there aren't any typos in the email etc.?

The username that you saw, does it appear in your account settings here or somewhere else?

If you login using a different browser or a private browsing window, what do you see?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

    Hello Hannah!

Thank you for the quick response. Okay, I realize that my Drop Box account had been created with a Gmail email address I rarely use (that is forwarded to my Hotmail main email) so when I reset my password I used my Hotmail address. Still, that doesn't explain why I am seeing this username that is not mine. I used my Hotmail address that I've had for over 20 years (yup). Could someone else have used it to create an account??  I did just try logging in with Private navigation and the situation is the same. What should I do?

Hi gcolmer, the name on the account is what you enter on the Dropbox site.

Since it sounds like you have two separate email addresses, you can change the name on both accounts to whatever you wish, from this page. If you're concerned, you could also try resetting the email passwords in case someone else has access to that.

I set up new account today with an ol email [personal information removed per the Community's Guidelines].   Pretty specific.   When I got the greeting for the new account it said Hello Rhonda and thinks my name is Rhonda [removed].  How do I find out if there is someone else who can access my new account?  Where did Rhonda [removed] come in?   Thanks...  Linda

Hey ljrkrispes, thanks for reaching out to our Community and happy Monday!

Are you sure that you created a new account and didn't just sign in to an already existing one?

The name that appears on the email that you received, should be the name that was assigned to the account.

Can you send us a screenshot of what the email said? Just make sure to hide any personal info, like your email address.
