How can I delete an unwanted extra Dropbox account?

I accidentally created an extra Dropbox account in a second email account. I wish to cancel the extra Dropbox account, but I am afraid in the process I will lose my original Dropbox account that is located in my primary email account. What can I do to insure that does not happen?

It happened when I linked a file to the second email address, and I must have impulsively clicked a button to create an account. I tried to delete the new account but received a message to create a password. I didn't do that, thinking I would be digging the hole deeper. I hope this doesn't put a glitch in my original Dropbox account. I am posting this from the original Dropbox account.

  • If I remember correctly, the message was that I needed to sign into the extra account in order to delete it. In order to sign in I had to create a password for the extra account. I did that and got a message saying the extra account was successfully deleted, and my original Dropbox account was not affected. Thank you for the follow up.

Hey Mdbox2, thanks for posting your question.

If you want to make sure you're deleting the correct account, I would suggest opening a new private browsing/incognito window on your browser.

Sign in to the account in question, delete it and your main Dropbox account won't be affected at all.

Let me know how it goes!

In order to sign in to the extra unwanted account on the incognito window I have to enter a password which I have been reluctant to create. I guess I will make sure all the files on my original Dropbox are located on my hard drive. Then create a password for the unwanted account so I can delete it and take a chance my original Dropbox survives. Thanks for the help.

Hey Mdbox2, can you clarify what you mean by "create a password"?

What kind of prompt do you see when you try to sign in?
