How to extricate my folder from a Dropbox team?

HELP. I have had a Dropbox account for 15 years. Recently, a new client asked me to join their Dropbox as a member. Once I joined, my own personal files are now part of their account, in a separate folder. How to do move my files back to my own personal account? They are not linked... I seem to have somehow become a folder in their account. Can I create a new account with my same email and somehow move the entire folder to my new account? Or somehow reinstate my old personal account?

Hi PaperPlane, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

It sounds like you joined a Dropbox team, which means that you are a team member, and can't leave the team yourself.

You would need to ask the team admin to convert your account back to a personal account away from the team by following these steps exactly.

Keep me updated with any progress!

This all seems super risky. Should I somehow backup all my work before I have them do this??? How did this happen? Why would Dropbox remove my own personal account?

If you are invited to join a Dropbox team, you have an option to merge your account and files to the team, which is what it sounds like in this instance.

If you wish, you can backup your files locally before asking the team admin to convert your Dropbox account.
