Leaving a shared folder

Leaving a shared folder

noob1
New member | Level 2

I'm trying to remove my personal dropbox account from a shared work folder.  When I follow the steps below, it deletes the folder for all users.  (I double checked using my work dropbox).  We are not a team.  How can I exit from this shared folder?  I am not the owner.

How to temporarily leave a folder

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Hover over the name of the folder you’d like to remove and click "..." (ellipsis).
  3. Click Delete.

Hi @noob1,

Using Delete is never a good idea! Most probably instead of deleting your shared folder you have deleted some subfolder into the shared folder. That's why that subfolder disappear for all.

Another, more stable way, is to follow here. Find out there the shared folder you want to leave. Select the ellipsis on the right. Select "Remove from Dropbox" from the popup menu. 😉

Hope this helps.

Could you clarify if the steps you provided aren't working for you? Which step isn't appearing?

This will help me to assist further!

Thank you, that worked.  I was trying to remove myself from each subfolder and only saw the "Delete" command.  Going up one level to my main shared folder gave me the "Remove from Dropbox" command.
