Age limit outside of the US

Age limit outside of the US

Can anyone explain why Dropbox has an age limit of 16 outside of the US and 13 in the US??? Kind of makes a joke of the Dropbox Family product for anyone outside of the US.  Apple and Microsoft don't distinguish between within the US and outside the US for accounts and have 13 year minimum age requirement and obviously include cloud storage options (and much more).

Hi @RobPen1, I hope you're doing well!

As the Help Center article mentions, there are specific laws depending on the country and area you reside in, that play a key role to this. Hence the age difference.

You can have a look here for more info.

I hope this clarifies!

Thanks Megan. Kind of helps but Dropbox seems to be following a one size fits all approach outside the US without regard to laws in other countries. For example, I am not aware there are any such regulations in Australia (where I am) that would preclude a 13yr old from being offered a cloud storage service and as per my original post, it seems that Apple and Microsoft don’t apply the same restriction outside the US.  And if it is a problem, why can’t a parent approve access?

Hi Megan - just following up on the Age Limit criteria outside of the US for any update on likelihood of a change.  As per my original post, it seems like a one size fits all approach and not something that other providers of cloud storage services e.g Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud differentiate between the US and outside of the US and all have an age limit of 13+.  It kind of makes my Dropbox Family subscription a bit redundant
